It's Black History Month...
Our first February film celebrating Black History Month is Basquiat (1996) based on the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose work explored "systems of racism" (among many other things).
Wikipedia.org Article for the real Jean-Michel Basquiat:

Run Time: 108 mins
Genre: Drama, Biopic
Format: Widescreen Format, Color
Director: Julian Schnabel
Starring: Jeffrey Wright, Michael Wincott, Benicio Del Toro, Claire Forlani, David Bowie, Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken and Willem Dafoe
Basquiat is an artist, who has a very creative imagination with his graffiti art. Director Julian Schnabel shows Basquiat's imaginative mind to the viewers by, once in a while, showing Basquiat visualizing a surfer behind a building in Brooklyn.
Our photo above capitalizes on the frigged, freezing, snow-covered, cold winter we are currently having here at press time, so instead of a surfer behind a building, we have a snowboarder behind a house.

Trailer for the Film on YouTube:
This is an interesting exploration of life in the world of art. It is a biopic about an artist who has an imaginative mind, but also falls to human frailties (drugs, cheating on his girlfriend, out all night). It also stars the late great David Bowie in the role of Andy Warhol. In fact, if you are looking for a lot of amazing talent and acting chops, this is the film for you. There are tons of great actors in this one.
