Trailer for the Film on YouTube:
Despite the controversy that Mel Gibson brought upon himself shortly after this film's release (and had already garnered impressive box office results), The Passion still stands as a powerful film. Perfect? Maybe not. But Gibson's did something that hasn't been done in a long time, he made a successful religious film that prompted its main audience to seriously contemplate a basic truth of their faith. That is: Christ suffered grueling torture before he died in a cruel, barbaric fashion...and, of course, by doing this and rising from the dead, gave those who believe eternal life. Revelation 21:5 tells us how God can make "all things new." Gibson - in his own mysterious way - did just that. He took a story that every Churchgoer knows by heart and made us see it in a new way that is haunting, unsettling and inspiring.
Not for the faint of heart, The Passion of the Christ asks viewers to understand that His suffering and death was no easy task...and He did it out of love for us. Quite frankly, this film will make you think twice whenever you see a crucifix. And this is why The Passion of the Christ is our Film of the Day for Good Friday. ~ Chris
