This would be Tim Burton's Feature-Length film Directorial debut and it quickly became my favorite Tim Burton film, next to Ed Wood (1994) and Batman Returns (1991).  It was co-written, along with Reubens by Phil Hartman who makes a cameo at the end of the film.

Whether you are a Pee Wee Herman fan or not this film does everything right.  It is perfection.  For what it is supposed to be (a story about a man enshrined with a childhood demeanor who ends up losing his bike and sets off to find it), it is polished from the bottom to the top.  It is a great story based partially on the Italian film classic Bicycle Thieves (1948).
